The Choteau High School football team will be on the road this week, traveling to Box Elder on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.

The Choteau boys are now 3-2 on the season after last weekend’s Homecoming loss to the Centerville Miners, 38-32. The boys will play their last regular season game at home on Oct. 5 against Belt at 7 p.m. The following weekend there will be seeded playoff games in the Class B/C eight-man league with games set on Oct. 12 and 13. The first round of playoffs starts Oct. 27 and will wrap up with the championship game on Nov. 17.

In last week’s game, two well balanced teams fought for control of the game. Choteau led, 26-18, at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and Choteau scored once in the fourth quarter, but Centerville’s offense had a huge final quarter as quarterback Carson McGinnes, a 6-foot-0, 170-pound junior, scored three times — once on a 14-yard keeper and twice on mid-distance passes to Cooper Davis, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior receiver to take the lead and win the game.

Choteau amassed 364 yards of offense in the game, compared to Centerville’s 289 yards. Choteau had 257 yards rushing and 107 yards passing. Senior running back Pete Henderson, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds, had 238 yards on 31 carries, including two touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Johnny Rappold (6-foot-0, 185 pounds) kept the ball himself 11 times, running for 70 yards and one touchdown. Freshman Carter Morgan had one carry for five yards.

In the air, Rappold completed eight of 27 passes for 107 yards, including connecting with senior tight end Shane Willekes (6-foot-1, 160 pounds) for a five-yard touchdown. He also completed passes to Kolby Kovatch, Kyler Crabtree, and Henderson.

The Choteau boys lost two fumbles on offense, one of which the Centerville Miners converted into a touchdown. On defense, Willekes scored a safety for the Bulldogs.
