SHELBY — The Choteau High School Bulldogs boys basketball team remains undefeated after winning the District 1B tournament championship in a hard-fought battle with a talented Fairfield team. Choteau won the game, 71-54.

The Bulldogs trailed early in the first quarter but then their vaunted offense started clicking and they came from behind to take the lead, 16-14, at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, they opened up the margin, and took a 38-23 lead into the locker room at half time. They kept the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Dylan Pannabecker led the Bulldogs in scoring with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Others scoring for the Bulldogs included Derrek Durocher with 16 points (including 5 of 5 at the free-throw line); Collin Achenbach with 15 points, Darrien Garcia with 10, Jonathan Moore with 4 and Marshall Willekes with 3. Durocher also had 5 rebounds and two assists. Achenbach also had two steals. The team had only 7 turnovers in the game. The boys shot 43.6 from two-point range, 33.3 from three-point range and made 65.2 percent of their free throws.

Leading the Fairfield Eagles in scoring was Chandler Allen with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Others scoring were Tarren Lee with 9 points, Joel Beck with 8 points and two blocked shots, and Cantor Coverdell, Tanner Mayer and CJ McWilliams with 6 points each. Coming off the bench late in the fourth quarter, Ethan Schenk, Kolbe Pitcher and Luke Batson each had 2 points. The team had 16 turnovers in the game. The boys shot 52.3 percent from two-point range, 25 percent from three-point range and made 50 percent of their free throws.

Overall, Choteau attempted 79 shots to Fairfield's 54 in the game. No one fouled out in the contest though several starters had picked up four fouls well before the end of the game.
