The Jan. 12 Power-Dutton/Brady-Simms Pre-Divisional Challenge speech and drama meet drew 143 competitors from 19 schools.

Valerie Smelser, meet organizer and Power-Dutton/Brady speech and drama coach, said there were 59 judges from Geraldine to Billings and as far away as California who helped make the meet possible. She thanked the judges along with those who helped with the meet in other ways, from stocking the hospitality room to cleaning up up when it was done.

“It takes more than a village to pull off the one-day meet,” she added.

Smelser was not only pleased at how smoothly the meet ran overall, but also with how well her team members performed.

Placing were Jazzmyn Ewing, third in informative speaking; Conan Rehm, second in dramatic solo; Joey Zylks, first in dramatic oral interpretation; and Hope Smelser, first in extemporaneous speaking. The team finished third in Class C speech sweeps.
