The whole family is invited to spend the day outside with the Sun River Watershed Group in Montana’s beautiful Sun Canyon for the annual Sun River Watershed Weed Whacker Rodeo on Saturday, July 11.
With the cancellation of several Sun Canyon weed events this spring, the Weed Whacker Rodeo will need more volunteers than ever. Those folks returning can pull at their favorite spots. For newcomers, we have some truly infested areas waiting just for you.
Volunteers will pull weeds until noon, then SRWG will host a barbecue lunch consisting of locally raised burgers courtesy of Sarah and Mike Cobb, prepared by the Waldner Family. Following lunch, awards will be presented and prizes given.
In addition to lunch and prizes, SRWG will provide water (Bring your own refillable bottle!), gloves, trash bags and hand sanitizer.
Worried about COVID-19? This event has social distancing built right in. Feel free to wear a mask if you’re comfortable working in one or take other precautions.
Participants should remember to bring gloves and tools if they have them, a face mask if they desire, sunscreen, insect repellent and a smile.
If you would like to help but you can’t be there, SRWG is also taking contributions to support the event and donated items to give away as prizes. For more information on donations, call 214-2868. Donations can also be mailed to: Sun River Watershed Group, P.O. Box 7312, Great Falls, MT 59405.
Unfamiliar with the location for the pull? From Augusta, take Sun Canyon Road west towards Sun Canyon Lodge/Gibson Dam. Registration will be held starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Beaver Creek camp area just a couple miles past Sun Canyon Lodge. There will be signs posted from Augusta to help volunteers. Introductions and instructions will be given at 9 a.m. with the pull starting at 9:15 a.m.
