The Sun River Watershed Group (SRWG) annual Sun River Weed Whacker Rodeo will be held on July 13.

SRWG is seeking volunteers to participate in this family-friendly event that includes a morning of pulling weeds followed by a barbecue lunch and an awards presentation in the beautiful Sun Canyon. SRWG hopes participants will stay and continue to enjoy the outdoors into the afternoon, with hiking, fishing or other activities in the canyon.

“Over the years, volunteers participating in this event have removed over 10,000 pounds of weeds,” says SRWG coordinator, Tracy Wendt. “The Weed Whacker Rodeo is a great way for volunteers and community members to enjoy the canyon while helping control the spread of noxious weeds. I hope people come, have fun and feel good for keeping this special place healthy.”

Event registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Beaver Creek turn-around near the base of Gibson Dam. To pre-register as an individual or group, or to help sponsor this event, please contact Wendt at 214 2868 or

SRWG has additional events coming up this summer, including a 25th Anniversary Celebration on Aug. 24.
