Looking for a few ways to help your community out? Here are several gleaned from the pages of this weekÕs edition:

¥Help Choteau High School maintain the beautiful all-weather track put in by a grant several years ago by purchasing a track sponsorship sign for $250 a year. If you already have one, now is the time to renew your commitment by contacting CHS and sending in your check.

¥Clean out your pantsÕ pockets, check the sofa, get your spare change from your vehicleÕs cup holder and go to RexÕs Market on Thursday, Aug. 15, for Bright EyesÕ annual ÒPennies for Pets Day.Ó The good folks at Bright Eyes will take your spare change and convert it into food and shelter for homeless dogs, cats and other pets.

¥Help out Choteau Public Schools by signing up as a substitute teacher. The new school year will start later this month, and, as always, the schools are seeking qualified community members to sign up as substitutes. Substitutes earn a $75 stipend per day and allow teachers to take time off for family emergencies, long-term illnesses and to attend special seminars and training programs. Call the CHS Office at 466-5303 to put your name on the list.

¥Sign your kids up for the End Hunger Games Mini-Triathlon in Conrad on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. This event is open to children ages 5-14, with registration $10 and a can of food. The children compete in swimming, running and bicylcing and help raise funds to combat childhood hunger in our region. Call 271-2034 for more information.

¥Become part of the solution to MontanaÕs suicide crisis by getting training in mental health first aid for youths and for adults. Benefis Teton Medical Center and two partners are offering this eight-hour training program on Aug. 12 and 13. One day is for the youth program and the other is for the adult program; there will also be other speakers on Aug. 13. Registration is free and the information shared may help you save someoneÕs life as the program teaches lay people how to identify at-risk youth and adults and how to reach out to them to help them access mental healthcare before they resort to suicide. Call Benefis Teton Medical Center at 466-6039 to sign up.

¥Sign up to help as a volunteer at the second annual Front Range Fly In in Choteau Aug. 9-11. Six or seven hot air balloonists will be in town and they need two to three volunteers each to help them set up and take down their balloons. They also need a team of two ÒchasersÓ to follow their balloons once they launch and be there with the balloonistsÕ truck and trailer once the balloons land. Organizers are hoping Choteau folks will turn out for this unique gathering that will include rides for a fee and a special ÒglowÓ event Saturday night. Call 466-3333 to sign up as a volunteer.

¥If youÕre looking for something to do on Aug. 10, consider driving down to Simms and helping the community there celebrate ÒValley Fun Day.Ó Lots of folks in Choteau are super busy over this communityÕs big 4th of July celebration. HereÕs a chance for them to just go as spectators and enjoy. The lineup of activities includes a fun run, a basketball touranment, a horseshoe tournament, food venders, an archery shoot, kids and adultsÕ games, lunch, a pie social, live auction, duck races, and two different musical performances, one featuring Celtic music and the other bluegrass. For more information, call DeeDee Rains at 264-5501, Ruth Mortag at 264-5648 or Dave Yarger at 264-5423.
