The organizers of the three fun run races in Choteau and Dutton are offering the fifth annual “Teton County Tobacco Free Trifecta Challenge” to runners and walkers in the region this summer. With the support of the Healthy Teton County Coalition, the race organizations are offering a special prize to everyone who completes or volunteers at the three race events.

As part of the trifecta challenge, Teton County Public Health Nurse Erin Jones is urging people to live a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle. “Being physically active and saying ‘no’ to tobacco are part of a healthy lifestyle,” Jones said.

Anyone who is using tobacco — smoking cigarettes, “vaping” on e-cigarettes or using chewing tobacco — is encouraged to call the Montana Tobacco Quit Line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669) to find help to make this huge lifestyle change. People wanting to quit tobacco can also contact the Teton County Health Department at 466-2562.

The races are scheduled as follows:

• “Got Grit?” obstacle course, a 5K obstacle course race, on Wednesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. in Choteau. More information is available at

•Choteau Rocky’s Road 4-mile race and a 1-mile walk/run on Thursday, July 4, at 7:45 a.m. Registration forms are available at the Choteau Acantha or email Melody Martinsen at to request a registration form. Online registration is available at

•Dutton Fun Day “Craig Storle Memorial Run,” Saturday, July 13, at 8 a.m., a 5K fun run or a 1-mile walk/run in Dutton.

Forms to sign up for the “trifecta challenge” will be available from race organizers in all three communities or are available from the Choteau Acantha newspaper office, 216 First Ave. N.W. Forms can be requested via email by contacting Martinsen.

There is no additional cost to sign up for the trifecta. Runners must take their trifecta form to each race and have the race director initial in the appropriate place on the form to verify that the runner/walker participated in all three of the events.

After the final race in Dutton, runners who completed the “trifecta challenge” should mail their forms to the Teton County Health Department, 905 4th St. N.W., Choteau, MT 59422, by no later than July 25. Special prizes will be available for pick-up at the Health Department or can be mailed out to the finishers.
