The Choteau Lions Club and the Choteau Soroptimists and many volunteers are inviting community members and travelers to partake of a free Thanksgiving feast in the Choteau Elementary School cafeteria on Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The volunteers are happy to deliver meals in Choteau as well so anyone who can’t make it out to the dinner is welcome to call or text volunteer Cathy Campbell, the head cook at Choteau Public Schools, at 590-8328 to request a home-meal delivery.

This is the sixth year that the two civic organizations are sponsoring the free Thanksgiving meal as a community service.

The Lions and the Choteau Soroptimists enjoy continuing this Thanksgiving tradition, established by then-restaurant owners Jesse and Rose Crawford, and making sure that everyone in Choteau has some place to go to celebrate and give thanks.

The civic organizations are offering the meal for free though a free-will offering from those who can afford to do so would be welcomed to help defray expenses.

This year’s menu will feature deep-fried turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing muffins, gravy, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, green and black olives, carrot and celery sticks, and apple and pumpkin pie plus coffee and water.

Volunteers are needed to help with food preparation, starting at 6 a.m., through serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then with clean-up following. Anyone wanting to volunteer should contact Campbell to sign up for any of the needed areas. Anyone wanting to make a cash donation to help with the costs of the meal may also contact Campbell.
