A fundraiser to help the Craig and Kelly Bimler family will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, in Choteau.
Craig, the husband of Choteau native Kelly McDonough, was involved in a traumatic freak accident while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. On Easter Sunday, Craig, Kelly and their three kids were at the beach. Diving into the water, Bimler hit a sandbank and broke his neck instantly. He was flown to a hospital in San Diego in critical condition where he was treated for a number of injuries. He spent several months in the California hospital and recently was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver for rehabilitation.
The “Defying the Odds” benefit for Craig and Kelly Bimler and their family includes a number of events.
A corn-hole tournament will be held at the Choteau Country Club following the Choteau Ranch Rodeo in the afternoon. Those participating in this tournament do not need to pre-register. Teams will be formed before the tournament. Organizers said this would be a family-friendly event open to all ages.
Sunday will kick off the golf tournament at noon. The goal is to have 72 golfers divided into 18 four-person teams. Anyone is welcome to golf. Single golfers are welcome and will be matched up to form as many teams as needed. Those wishing to golf are asked to contact the Choteau Country Club at 466-2020 to reserve your team, and specify if you are an individual, two, three or four persons. The cost is $35 per person and includes your nine holes of golf, cart and lunch. There will be mulligans, string game and the dice game available for purchase.
Auctions and a dinner will also take place at the Country Club. A silent auction will start at 4 p.m. and a free-will donation dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Outpost Deli restaurant is providing the main dish for the dinner, while side dishes and dessert will be provided by community members. The live auction will begin at 7 p.m., with live entertainment will follow.
Those wishing to donate items to the auctions are asked to contact Samantha Yeager at 885-6122. Volunteers are welcome to help with any of the events or to donate food for the meal. Those wishing to help can call or text Michelle Rogers at 461-9506 or you can reach out to Lorry Rasmussen, Kelly’s mother, in Choteau.
