New business

Wendy Yeager of Choteau is opening Firefly Gifts in the former Lil’s Beauty Shop on Main Avenue North. Firefly Gifts and Prailee’s Closet will hold their grand opening on Friday, June 9.

Two new businesses under one roof are holding their grand opening on Friday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 32 Main Ave. N. in Choteau in the former Lil’s Beauty Shop space.

Firefly Gifts operated by Wendy Yeager and Prailee’s Closet operated by Lea Stringfellow invite the Choteau and area community to come by and see what they have to offer.

Firefly Gifts is stocking its shelves with products that are primarily produced by Montana cottage industries, including many from this area, including the Choteau Spice Co., Sweetgrass Paper Co., East Slope Woodwork, Shay’s Tie One On and Gateway Metalworks, all of Choteau. The store is also carrying Montana Coffee Traders items, Tumblewood Teas from Big Timber, Whitefish Pottery, Smoot Honey Co. from Power, Hurraw! Lip balms from Whitefish, Your True Nature from Fort Collins, Colorado, and products made by Grazing Greyn Acres of Dutton.

“My inventory will be changing with the seasons, so there will always be something new to discover,” Yeager said, adding that she has more inventory coming in the next few weeks.

Yeager graduated from Choteau High School but has lived in a variety of places since then, working in the food service, retail, secretarial and customer service management fields.

After starting Venom Smokehouse (a mobile food truck that makes amazing barbecue dishes), Yeager realized that she enjoyed owning her own business and wanted one she could operate year-round.

“I began making candles about a year ago, and after becoming a Made in Montana business, I realized how many talented and artistic people we have in Montana, but especially here in Choteau,” Yeager said. “I wanted to open a business where these artists and artisans could display and sell their art. Firefly will focus on Montana-made products, but will also carry products from all over the United States.”

Presently, Yeager is the only employee in her store. She hopes the business will see success with a unique brand of inventory. “I hope my inventory will appeal to everyone, and am working hard to make sure our community can find affordable, unique gifts right here in Choteau,” she said.

Firefly Gifts can be reached at 466-3993 during regular business hours, starting next week, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
