The Choteau High School girls tennis team brought home the second-place trophy from the Northwest B-C divisional tournament last weekend in Conrad.

Coach Lisette Langdorf said this is the first time since Choteau began fielding a girls tennis team that the team has brought home a divisional tournament trophy.

Choteau took four singles players and two doubles teams to the tournament, where Cut Bank, Choteau, Fairfield, Conrad, Simms and Valier players competed for the opportunity to advance to the state Class B-C tournament May 14-16 in Great Falls.

Choteau’s singles players were Hallie Stringfellow, a senior, who placed second and advances to state; Adrienne Murphy, a senior; Becca Lightner, a sophomore, and Adair Peach, a junior. Murphy will also go to state as the team’s alternate.

Choteau’s doubles teams were seniors Sarah Hodgskiss and Sierra Gramm, who took second and advance to state; and Sophie King and Abby Smith.

Langdorf and assistant Neal Wedum along with several community volunteers have coached the girls this season.

Other members of the CHS tennis team are: Jessica Baker, Stormi Rulon, Katelyn Antonsen and senior Kala Lightner.

Langdorf said the Choteau girls got to play a lot of tennis at the divisional tournament and are looking forward to working hard this week before their state matches.

A first-year tennis coach, Langdorf said the divisional tournament was a learning experience for her too and one which will help her next season. “Overall it was a good two days,” she said of the tournament, adding that Choteau’s girls showed great team spirit and were very supportive of their opponents as well. “It was just beautiful to see that sportsmanship on the court and off,” she said, adding that several coaches complimented the Choteau girls on their sportsmanship.
